About my work
Working in mixed media painting as well as fiber art and printmaking, my visual language, or Bildsprache, emphasizes the use of layers as a metaphor for time. The physicality of the work’s creation is an uncovering, as if through archaeological techniques of digging and carefully finding, then analyzing, transforming the hidden into the revealed, and the meaningless into the meaningful. Randomness and choice play equal roles, much like the process of survival over the eras.
Playing with personal memory, family myth, and collective history, my work is a means to understand, process, and find meaning in what feels obscure, esoteric, and hidden, ultimately culminating in enlightenment and illumination about the past and present alike.
